Description

Its spores are invariably present in the very air we breath. This is an extremely common fungus and few are the plants that it will fail to grow on given the right conditions.

As the name suggests a greyish fuzzy fungal growth develops over the infected area.

The spread of the growth will vary depending on the stage to which the infection has developed.

Visual Symptoms

Other than the grey fuzzy fungal growth, look out for:

  • Extensive discolouration with leaves or fruit turning brown
  • Bleached white spots on plant petals

Treatment and Control

Remove and destroy all infected plant parts.

Spray with suitable fungicide. Products containing the following active ingredients will be effective:

  • MACOZEB (for example DIATHANE 945)

Tomato Leaf Mould. Symptoms are similar to the early stages of grey mould – yellowing leaves turning brown and dying – but no fuzzy grey mould development. Treat as for grey mould.
